PROTEIN-LOSING ENTEROPATHY is a clinical condition characterized by chronic hypoalbuminemia caused by increased protein loss in the intestinal lumen. Physiopathologically, it is associated with a lymphatic deficit, which can be of congenital malformative nature, as in intestinal lymphangiectasia, or secondary to an inflammatory-infiltrative process of the lymphatic-lymph node structures of the small intestine, due to acute or chronic inflammatory disease, tumor metastases, or granulomatous reactions.
