Rome, August 28

– “The conference will examine the technological innovations related to imaging procedures used for the diagnosis and medical, physical, and surgical treatment of LYMPHATIC diseases, as well as the progress made in the instrumentation related to the use of the operating microscope and microsurgical instruments, including new techniques for liposuction for lymphatic pathology,” says Corrado Campisi, president of the World Congress of Lymphology and professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Catania. “We will review the genes associated with LYMPHATIC diseases, which are the cause of rare syndromes and predisposition to lymphatic deficits. With lymphatic scintigraphy and new applications of fluorescence lymphography, we can also map specific crucial sites and obtain valuable information for surgery. For example, if a cancer patient is recommended for the surgical removal of a ‘suspected’ lymph node, or preventively, with the map of ‘LYMPHATIC highways,’ it is possible to predict the risk of lymphedema development and, therefore, suggest safer alternatives or preventive therapeutic interventions.” Specific sessions will be dedicated to minimally invasive surgical techniques and the use of shockwave treatments capable of “melting” the toughest blockages and making surgical work simpler and more effective. Among the Congress’s objectives is to provide a global overview of Clinical Lymphology, with biennial updates, particularly of the International Society of Lymphology’s “Consensus Document” on the Diagnosis and Therapy of Lymphedema, which represents the most relevant epidemiologically, socially, and clinically in the field of LYMPHATIC diseases.
