Chemically, BPV is a monosodium salt of methylene blue used in lymphology as a dye for in vivo identification of lymphatic structures. Due to its chemical composition, it has a strong affinity for the lymphatics and, when injected into tissues, is almost completely drained by the lymphatic collectors and major structures. It is excreted through the kidneys. In some individuals, it can cause allergic reactions.
